A Complete Guide to Premade Bag HFFS Machines

What is a Premade Bag HFFS

Premade bag HFFS machines take pouches, open them up and dispense product into them. This equipment is capable of handling a variety of different products, including liquids, powders, granules, sauces and meats.

Once filled, the machine will seal the pouch with either a heat seal or cap.

Types of pouches

Using premade bags gives producers, like you, a competitive edge by providing you with an endless variety of complex bag shapes, meeting consumers’ high demands for a modern package design

Below are some of the most common types of premade pouches.

Flat/Standup

The stand-up pouch with a bottom gusset has a simple shape and is user-friendly. Its design enables it to hold a larger quantity of product and stand upright on its own.

Twin Pouch

This type of pouch features a central perforation that makes it possible to divide it into two sections, each containing the same product or different products. It is suitable for use with both flat and standup pouch styles.

Gusset (Double Layer Top)

The pouch is square-shaped with a flat bottom and complete side gussets. Its self-standing, full-side gusset design enables it to utilize maximum capacity. However, it requires specific filling equipment designed for gusset pouches.

Center Spout (Flat/Standup)

This flat or standup pouch is equipped with a center spout, making it suitable for packaging sauces, oils, seasonings, as well as home and personal care products.

Twisted Tie

Once the pouch is filled and sealed, a twist-tie or crimp tie is applied, ensuring its reliability and giving it a traditional twist-tie appearance.

Variations

There are various shapes available, depending on the application and customer preference. Improved convenience and enhanced design features.

Gusset (Single Layer Top)

This style of pouch has a square shape, flat bottom and partial side gussets. It is self-standing and can be used with fillers designed for flat and standup pouch styles, thanks to its fold-over side gussets.

Center Spout (Gusset)

This side gusset pouch is equipped with a center spout and features a brick-like shape when filled, making it highly efficient for cartoning and shelf placement. It is commonly used for packaging gelatin, pudding, beverages and purees.

Corner Spout

This pouch is available in flat, stand-up or single-layer side gusset styles and features a corner spout. The product is typically filled from the top of the pouch rather than through the spout. This type of pouch has an easy-pour format.

Tray

Cup or tray filler with sealed film top.

Rotary vs In-Line

There are two different types of premade bag horizontal form, fill and seals: rotary and inline.

Rotary machines pick up pouches and rotate them through different stations to get opened, filled, sealed and discharged.

An inline version of this machine picks up the pouch and goes through the same steps. However, this design sends the pouch straight down the line instead of rotating to different stations.
